Longboard Review #3 Longboard Larry Komodo

Larry Longboard Komodo:

Length: 47.5 Inches
Width: 9.25 Inches
Wheelbase: 34 Inches
Retail Price (Deck only): $150
Skill Level: intermediate

First off, this board is surprisingly light for its size. My roommate has this board and it is a great board for dancing with just enough length for dancing, allowing for double crosssteps and easy walk the planks. The board also has a nice 9.25 inch width for comfortable riding. I think the board’s greatest feature is its size. It is definitely a dancer but is a manageable size and could be used for commuting. However, the board is not too great at pumping and I would not take it freeriding. Runs well with 180 paris/randals and can easily run wheels as big as 75mm because of its nice functional wheel wells. The komodo is made out of bamboo and comes with a nice nose guard. All Larry Longboards are handmade and made after you order it and Larry is very nice about allowing you to customize his boards. However, because the boards are handmade, they take awhile to make and you may receive your Larry Longboard in 4-6 weeks.

Positives:

-Manageable size for a dancer
-Functional Wheel Wells
-little bit of flex
-Customizable
-Light
-Comes with a nose guard

Negatives
-Spray on grip comes off fast
-Not easy to pump
-May take a VERY long time to come

Me and Adam Colton

The Legend: Adam Colton

Adam Colton is arguably the one of biggest figures in Longboarding. He is a master at Dancing, Sliding, Downhill, Photography, Video Filming, Editing, and Directing. Starting off as a skateboarder, he met his future partner in crime, Adam Stokowski. Adam started longboarding and worked for Longboard Larry. While working for Larry, he started directing and filming skate videos with Adam Stokowski like “Skating To Sunshine” and “Longboarding Adams’ Style.” After a few years, Adam moved onto Loaded Longboards and created iconic videos like “Whirling Dervishes” and “The Loaded Dancer.”

With the creation of both his skate videos and “The Loaded Challenge,” Colton helped create the list of tricks that have become the foundation of longboard dancing.

And as if his dancing wasn’t amazing enough, he is also amazing at ripping it down a hill. Alot of the people in the longboarding community never had a chance to see what Adam could do if he was put down a hill and when he posted this little video, it created quite a stir. I was lucky enough to meet him personally in Santa Monica on National Skate Day and he is 1000x more amazing in real life than in his videos. He’s one of the smoothest skaters and one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. If you’re a skater in Santa Monica, keep your eyes peeled for a man with funky facial hair and a dancer and it might be the legend himself.

This kid brings some new hope to longboard dancing. All the big brands of longboarding are starting to turn their backs on dancing and moving towards freeriding and downhill racing. Hutton Richardson is smooth and one of the best dancers I’ve seen enter the longboarding scene in quite a while. Keep a eye out for this kid in the future.
